Acid Stream 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to the 79th episode of our first level spell series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at a very very special spell in the way that it is brand spankin new. May i introduce to you the one the only acid stream 5e spell. This spell is usable by the sorcerer and the wizard and it is found in unearthed arcana. I really like this one, i think it’s kind of neat. Now let’s get into its mechanics so you can figure out exactly what we’re talking about here.

Table of Contents

Mechanics

  • Damage: 3d4 (+1d4 per spell slot above 1st)
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: Self (30ft line)
  • Duration: 1 Minute (Concentration)
  • Saving throw: Dex
  • Components: Verbal, Material and Somatic
  • School: Evocation
  • Damage Type: Acid

Your damage is 3d4 plus an additional d4 each spell slot level above 1st. The cast time is one action, the range is self but it forms a 30-foot line. Very cool stuff. The duration is one minute and it is concentration that concentration is to maintain the acid so bear that in mind. The saving throw is dexterity, the components are verbal, somatic and material that material component in case you are curious is a bit of rotten food and it is not consumed in the casting of this spell. The school is an evocation and the damage type is acid. Which makes a lot of sense.

The effect at a glance is as followed: Creatures within a range are covered by acid, that deals damage at the start of each turn. An action must be used to remove the acid. So the damage is done at the start of their turn if that makes sense and you’ve got ease an action or someone else has to use an action to remove them from yourself or remove yours it from you if that makes sense. I’ll get to my personal thoughts on this in a little bit here. Before i do though let’s take a look at the full descriptions to understand exactly what we’re talking about.

Description

A stream of acid emanates from you within a line of 30 feet long and 5 feet wide in a specific direction that you choose. Of course each creature in a line should be succeeded on a dexterity saving throw or else be covered in an acid for a spell’s duration or else until the creature is uses its action for the scrape or else wash an acid off itself or else to another creature. However a creature covered in an acid shall take 3d4 acid damage at the start of an each of its turns.

At Higher Levels: Whenever you cast this spell by using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage shall increase by 1d4 for an each slot level above 1st.

Very cool stuff..basically you cast it, so people down an acid at the start of each their turns they take 3d4 acid damage and they got to use an action or have an action used on them to remove it. Very very cool stuff. They do not get to remake that save every time they take damage by the way it’s kind of a one-time thing and then forget about it. Now let’s move on to some alternative uses here and i’ll tell you about my personal thoughts right after.

Alternative Uses

I think this would work really well when it comes to executing a lot of plans. You can essentially eat up a turn and i would make a strong argument that while they’re being sprayed in burning acid. They’re gonna be panicking as well so whether or not your dm looks at it like that, that’s their call but personally if i had molten hot acid sprayed on me i’d be pretty chocked. Also this works really well in confined spaces narrow corridors and various other form of labyrinth-is  just because you know it’s a line. It does very good in those areas and its range is actually pretty decent which is really really nice. Outside of that i really like how this plays out for balances. It gives you a great opportunity to dish out a ton of damage to a large number of people consistently. It’s really cool, it’s really nice and i really like it. Whether or not i would allow it in my game? probably not to be honest with you! I think it’s a little bit too good certainly for a first level spell, i might make it a second level spell but i don’t know i can kind of see why just because acid is so not good in a lot of ways. So i don’t know let me know what you think though down beneath in the comment section.

Conclusion

Also let me know if you have any alternative uses, any ideas, any questions, comments or concerns regarding this dnd 5e acid stream put them down beneath in the comment section. Thank you so much guys. I really do appreciate your time, i hope you have a great day and as always happy casting everyone.

Faqs

You hurl a bubble of acid. Choose one creature within range, or choose two Creatures within range that are within 5 feet of each other. A target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d6 acid damage.

With such a limited amount of options, it’s no wonder acid damage is often overlooked. However, it is one of the more reliable damage types. Only 18 creatures have resistance to it, though 15 are immune.05-Feb-2021

Acid Splash is a decent cantrip, maybe not one that is widely picked just because that it does require it to be somewhat situational to be better than other cantrips, but that doesn’t make it bad. The requirement to have two creatures within 5 feet to hit both is a fairly easy requirement to fill.07-Jul-2021

Corrosive acids deals 1d6 points of damage per round of exposure except in the case of total immersion (such as into a vat of acid), which deals 10d6 points of damage per round. An attack with acid, such as from a hurled vial or a monster’s spittle, counts as a round of exposure.

Acid Splash is a Save-based Spell and doesn’t qualify as an Attack for a Critical hit, since there is no d20 roll for attack.13-Jul-2017

You don’t multiply splash damage on a critical hit. The splash trait specifically makes reference to weapons with the splash trait, and attacks with splash weapons. Acid Splash is a spell, not a weapon.12-Jun-2020
