Dimetrodon 5E Monster

All zoologists, or should I say paleontologists? My spellbook is open! Thank you for watching the 52nd episode in our series on beasts. We’ll be looking at the Dimetrodon 5e Monster today. It is an interesting reptile that is often found with other dinosaurs, usually hunting in shallow waters and on the shores. This creature is essentially a prehistoric Crocodile. The volo’s Guide to Monsters has this monster. It is a cr.1/4 monster and gives 50xp per kill. Let’s now take a look at the stats.

Stats

Dimetrodon is a medium-sized beast, but it is not aligned. The dimetrodon has an AC score of 12 and 19 hit points. These are calculated by rolling 3d8 with 6 to get 6. It can swim up to 20 feet and has a speed of 30ft.

  • Type: Medium Bear, Unaligned
  • AC: 12
  • HP: 19(3d8+6)
  • Speed: 30ft, Swim20ft

Take a closer look at the stats. It has a lot of strength, and it is comparatively weaker than most beasts. There isn’t much else to report.

  • STR: 14(+2)
  • DEX: 10(+0)
  • CON: 15(+2)
  • INT: 2(-4)
  • WIS: 10(+0)
  • CHA: 5(-3)

Skills will give it a +2 perception, which is equivalent to a passive sense of 12. Let’s now take a look at the actions of this creature.

Take Action

You can give it a bit attack. It has a range of 5 feet and can hit one target. It deals 9 piercing damages per hit. This is calculated by rolling 2d6 then adding 2.

These can be used in my game in the following of a cave-badgers tunnel. You’ll find a cave with amazing plant life that you have never seen before. These guys are the welcome party to dinoland. They emit a bright light from the ceiling due to glowing crystal.

They are easy to beat, easy to hit and have many movement options to help them get out of the shallow lagoon. They’re cool thematically.

Take a bow

That’s it! Let me know what you think about the Dimetrodon and how it would be used in your games in the comments section. Let me know if there are any concerns, questions or stories. I hope that you have a wonderful day, and be happy to research my friends.
