Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for clicked on to the 60th episode of our beast series. Today we have i really hate it when like these important numbers line up on relatively unimpressive beasts but we’re taking a look at the dnd 5e giant lizard monster it found in the basic rules and it is considered to be a cr:1/4(50xp). This is exciting ish in the way that there’s a variant that we’re also gonna be going over so it is kind of cool in that regard but not very exciting for the most part. At least that’s just my opinion but let’s get on to its stats we can talk about the actual piece itself and you can come your own conclusion.
Table of Contents
Are you looking for the d&d lizard monsters then here is our article. Mainly, this giant lizard could be ridden or else it has used as the draft animal. Of course the lizardfolk can also keep them like pets and also like subterranean giant lizards are usually used as Mounts and also the pack animals by drow, Duergar, and many others.
So this giant lizard is considered to be a large beast that is unaligned. AC of 12 and 19 hit points which is actually pretty decent calculated by rolling 3d10 and adding 3. It’s normal speed of 30 feet and a climb speed of 30 feet as well.
- Type: Large Beast, Unaligned
- AC: 12
- HP: 19(3d10+3)
- Speed: 30ft, climb 30ft
Now taking a look at his stats you’ll see he’s quite strong +2 to strength, +1 to dexterity and +1 to con who’s quite well rounded. You got a -4 to intelligence, 0 modifier to wisdom, and a -3 to charisma which of course makes sense.
- STR: 15(+2)
- DEX: 12(+1)
- CON: 13(+1)
- INT: 2(-4)
- WIS: 10(+0)
- CHA: 5(-3)
Now taking a look at his senses you’ll see darkvision of 30 feet and the passive perception of 10 which is okay. Now let’s get on to his actions here.
Bite: He only has one action and that is the bite attack. This dnd monster has the bite attack by using this action this giant lizard monster can make a Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage.
Now once again i’m not particularly impressed by the giant lizard and it’s base form at least the variant, that we’re gonna cover in the next articles. It is quite a bit better but it’s ok if it wasn’t for the hit points that have a size i guess. i’d have a really hard time putting it into the cr:1/4 category.
Variant: Giant Lizard Traits
In dnd 5th edition some of the giant lizards have one or two of the below mentioned traits.
Hold Breath: Of course as we have familiarity with this we know that it could hold its breathe for almost about 15 minutes easily. (A lizard which is having this trait also has the swimming speed of 30 feet.)
Spider Climb: As per this trait here the lizard can climb most of the difficult surfaces which others can’t. The surfaces includes upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

|AC||12 (Natural Armor)|
|Roll 0||Bite 1d20 + 4 1d8+2|
|Senses||Darkvision 30 Ft.|
|Speed||30 ft., climb 30 ft.|
But you now whatever, i mean i guess it’s tatted pretty good. It might make an interesting mount although i’d hold out for the very inversion once again but let me know how you would use it in your games. I’m always curious to hear from you guys. That being said i hope you’ll have a great day and as always happy researching.
