‘Eddie is a DJ legend to rank among the best of them, so make some noise for clubland’s answer to Rocky.’ - Mixmag
‘There are people who play records and there are DJ’s who blow minds, Eddie Halliwell is the latter…who makes every set, no matter how small the club or how big the festival, feel like the closing party of the end of the world – Eddie is a super star of the dance music scene’ - Mixmag
Eddie’s career has seen glowing accolades along the way and his talent is acknowledged by the worlds biggest dance music publications; Mixmag nominated him as one of the ‘Greatest DJ’s Of All Time’ and also crowned him ‘World number 1 DJ of the year’ twice; the first and only DJ to achieve this. He has also featured frequently in DJ Mag’s prestigious ‘Top 100 DJ’s’ poll, reaching world number 16 and being voted in the top 20 for 4 consecutive years… remarkable and consistent success in the ever-changing world of dance music. Eddie is now firmly established as one of the most exciting DJ's in the world and has amassed an army of fans globally who flock to see him perform.
In a scene where so many DJ’s look and sound the same, Eddie Halliwell has always been a revelation; he is a DJ who stands out from the crowd. Recognised for his own unique style, forging a combination of the tougher end of house, trance and techno, he is the pioneer of the sound infamously known as BOSH.
The release of the BOSH CD’s for Mixmag firmly stamped Eddie on the map; they went onto become some of Mixmag’s most successful cover mounts, gaining legendary status. Over the years Eddie has showcased ‘BOSH’ at a select number of venues, with support from the like of Mauro Picotto, Marco Bailey, Valentino Kanziani, Alex Di Stefano and Renato Cohen to name a few.
When Eddie first broke onto the dance music scene his career saw astonishing growth; the quickest the industry had seen at that time. His passion and talent earned him residencies at super club brands including Gatecrasher, Sundissential and Goodgreef. Residencies then quickly followed for Judgment Sundays in Ibiza and a legendary 10 year residency for Cream at Amnesia.
To understand this meteoric rise you have to go back to were it all began…
Eddie caught the DJ bug at age 15 and committed himself to his passion, spending years practicing and honing his skills before putting himself ‘out there’. Becoming obsessed with DJ technology and turntablism he started pushing the equipment to its limit to maximise it’s potential; this is where he developed his skills and now renowned scratching which he adapts to fit over the genres he plays today.
Eddies technical ability as a DJ has earned him not only respect amongst fellow DJ's but also admiration from stunned crowds. Behind the decks he is an exciting hive of activity, constantly manipulating his machines, warping the music, layering effects, triggering samples, chopping, scratching, morphing sounds into a fresh, unique and powerful sound-scape. Along the way Eddie has gained inspiration from turntablists such as the Scratch perverts and Q-bert and also from following DJ’s like Carl Cox, who still to this day remains Eddie’s biggest inspiration.
His peers acknowledge him as one of the leading innovators when it comes to using technology to push boundaries, as Paul Van Dyk said: “What Eddie Halliwell does with those Pioneer CD players is f*cking nuts!”. Tiesto has also always shown great support to Eddie and labeled Eddie as a “Legend”, in an interview with DJ Magazine! And it's not just the dance floor that loves this mind-boggling trickery; Eddie has worked alongside leading industry manufactures Pioneer to help develop the next generation of DJ technology and also works closely with Native Instruments.
Eddie’s love for technology has seen him develop his own unique stage show ED-IT (Eddie Djing – Integrated Technology) which he has showcased at some of the UK’s largest dance festivals including Creamfields. The ED-IT project shows how creative and mind blowing Eddie’s performances can be – using cutting edge technology to edit and remix music live on stage, accompanied by a full interactive visual display and stage show.
